Constructed In:

Constructed in the 11th century CE, the temple is traditionally attributed to King Jajati Keshari of the Somavamsi dynasty, with later additions by subsequent rulers. The structure represents the finest stage of the Kalinga school of temple architecture, known for its precise proportions, intricate carvings, and monumental design.

The Temple’s Towering Hight:

The temple’s towering spire rises to about 180 feet, dominating the skyline of Bhubaneswar and symbolizing the city’s historic identity as a major center of Shaivism. The complex includes multiple sections—such as the sanctum (Garbhagriha), assembly hall, dance hall, and offering hall—and is surrounded by numerous smaller shrines dedicated to various deities.

Deity:

The presiding deity is a self-originated (Swayambhu) Shiva Lingam, revered as Hari-Hara, representing the combined form of Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. This reflects the historical blending of Shaivism and Vaishnavism traditions in Odisha’s religious culture.
